This was in recognition of the couple's contribution to Pitch and Putt in the Netherlands, which is celebrating ten years in existence. They founded NPPB in 1998 and were both present at the meeting in Dublin that agreed to form EPPA in 1999. Their company Pitch Putt Support has been instrumental in building 16 courses in the Netherlands since 1998 and a further three will be opened in 2009. Erik has also seen success as a player, winning the Italian Open in 2002. Pietrix has recently stepped down from her role in Pitch Putt Support but still takes a keen interest in the sport at the orginal Dutch course Koekange. · Italian open 2008 01/10/2008 14:06 Ian Farelly of Duleek, Ireland was in sensational form at the Italian Open. Ian Farrelly, whose previous international successes include the French Open, San Marino Open and the Australian Open fired rounds of 49, 46 and 45 for an inspired 22 under par 54 hole aggregate of 140 at the Virginia club. That left the Co Meath player, who makes his overdue debut for Ireland next month against Holland, eleven shots clear of his closest pursuer, fellow Irish player Alan Hanlon (the most successful performer of all-time in international opens). Jean-Claude Richard of France, a former two-time winner of the Italian Open, placed third on ten under par.
Meanwhile, top lady was Italian Benedetta Farinella on 167, a shot clear of Ireland's Tracey McGrath and fellow Italian Paula Capella. Norway's Anders Juel's 168 was best senior (over 55s) return.
Nice to see two Dutch players and an Australian (James Rogerson) in the top ten at a hugely successful Italian Open.
